2012 Letter from the CEO

2012 Letter from the CEO

To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

I want to personally thank you for being a part of the Tuscaloosa Y. When I started in May, it was a whirlwind as you may know, as the tornado had just ravaged our city. Because of you and Tuscaloosa community, we were able to provide over $50,000 worth of help and scholarships to Y campers, members, and staff.

Since the tornado, a lot has happened at The Y. Here are some of the things from 2011 as we Roll into 2012…

• We have 10 new spin bikes on the way for January 1.
UA MBA strategic planning project complete. “They Y will now focus on Youth Development and the Tuscaloosa businessperson keeping our mission of putting Christian principles into practice as the focus.”
• We have a new UA partnership with the Department of Special Education and Multiple Abilities to enhance our afterschool program, with over 50 kids a day, starting January 2012.
Summer camp, with over 200 kids a day, will host children in the United Cerebral Palsy programs, at the Y.
• The “Wells Fargo Y Readers” program will boost literacy rates in our summer camp students.
Habitat for Humanity is going to reface Y’s Acres and have volunteers stay there for years to come in order to help rebuild Tuscaloosa.
• 2012 Youth First Campaign will run from March 16 – April 30 (formerly known as Strong Kids Campaign).

We could not do any of these programs without your help. Our biggest supporters are YOU, The United Way, and Coca-Cola. I know that you have a lot of choices as to where you work out; Tuscaloosa needs this YMCA, and YOU are making it happen.
